Allegheny County is carved into about 130 municipalities, and people here are loyal to theirs. We design websites for Pittsburgh businesses that know exactly which places they serve, and say so.

Where are you, exactly?

Ask a Pittsburgher where home is and the answer is rarely just Pittsburgh. It’s Mt. Lebanon, Dormont, Bethel Park, Lawrenceville, Bloomfield or Squirrel Hill. Allegheny County alone has about 130 municipalities, and inside the city the hills and rivers break everything into neighborhoods with hard edges. Somewhere a mile away on the map can be a bridge, a tunnel and twenty minutes away in the car.

That geography is why a vague service area costs you here. “Serving the greater Pittsburgh area” tells a homeowner in Fox Chapel nothing, least of all whether you’ll cross the Allegheny for a small job. Name the boroughs and townships you really work in, and say which side of which river you’re on. Storefronts should put the neighborhood beside the business name, since people judge distance here by bridges and tunnels as much as by miles.

Old houses on steep streets

Much of the region’s housing is old and sits on hillsides. Contractors deal with retaining walls, wet basements, century-old brick and staircases that were never built to any code anyone remembers. Homeowners searching for help usually have one specific problem, and they want evidence you can handle a house like theirs.

So a contractor site here should be organized around problems people actually search for, with photos of real jobs instead of stock pictures of new suburban houses. It should say clearly which municipalities you cover and whether you take small repairs. Our contractors guide goes deeper, and small business web design is the service most trades start with.

The labs in Oakland, and what comes out of them

Carnegie Mellon and Pitt sit side by side in Oakland, with UPMC’s hospitals a short walk away, and a good share of the region’s newer companies come out of that corner of the city: robotics, AI, medical devices, software. A lab spinout has the reverse of the contractor’s problem. The technology is impressive, and nobody outside the lab can tell what it does. Its site’s first job is one clear sentence about who the product is for and what changes when they use it. Our startup guide covers how we’d approach that, and 3D design helps when the product is a machine nobody can easily visit.

The counties around Allegheny

Cranberry Township in Butler County has become a business center in its own right, out where I-79 meets the turnpike. Washington County has Canonsburg, Peters Township and the city of Washington; Westmoreland has Greensburg and Latrobe; Beaver County follows the Ohio River northwest. Each one is a separate audience, and an office manager in Cranberry isn’t searching for “Pittsburgh IT support”.

The practical part

We’re remote, so nobody sits in Fort Pitt Tunnel traffic for a meeting. Calls go on Eastern Time, designs are reviewed through shared links, and you’ll know how to edit the site yourself before it goes live.

Pittsburgh specifics

Our shop is on the North Side, so will South Hills customers even consider us?

Some will, as long as you’re straightforward about it. Say how far you travel, which bridges and tunnels you’re used to crossing, and whether there’s a minimum job size, then let them decide. Being upfront about distance beats pretending you’re local everywhere.

Is it worth writing separate pages for boroughs we serve often?

For the handful of boroughs that bring in most of your jobs, yes, as long as each page has something real to say. A page about Mt. Lebanon written for Mt. Lebanon homeowners, with the jobs you do there, is worth more than twenty thin pages with the name swapped.
