Growers, packers and the people who work for them want the answer before the phone number. Fresno and Clovis websites a buyer can read in a truck.

The catalog was easier to use

Plenty of Valley suppliers still run websites that look like a scan of the printed catalog, and frankly the printed catalog was easier to use. That matters more than it sounds. The person shopping for an irrigation part in Fresno County usually isn’t browsing. They’re standing next to the broken one, in an almond orchard outside Kerman, with a phone and a crew waiting. They need three answers: do you carry it, can you get it out today, and who picks up when they call. A website that makes them scroll past a mission statement to find that out has already lost the sale to whoever answered faster.

What farm buyers actually look for

Much of Fresno’s economy sells to agriculture rather than doing it: equipment dealers, irrigation and pump companies, packing and cold storage suppliers, crop consultants, labor contractors, ag lenders, the welding shop that fixes harvesters at two in the morning in August. Their customers are practical people with no patience for vagueness, and they compare suppliers the same way they compare anything else: by price, availability and whether they trust the person on the other end.

So the site should be built around the questions a grower asks before calling. What do you stock or service, and for which crops? How far do you deliver or drive? Are there minimums? Do you work weekends during harvest? Put those answers on the page, in plain words, and keep the phone number visible the whole way down. Our guide for contractors and trades covers how to lay out service pages for this kind of work, and most of it applies to ag suppliers too.

Don’t forget the signal, either. Out on a ranch road the connection is often weak, so a page that depends on heavy images and three tracking scripts may simply never load. We keep Valley sites light on purpose.

Clovis, Madera and the small towns

Clovis sits right against Fresno but considers itself its own place, and its residents search that way. The same goes for Madera, across the river in Madera County, and for the towns on the east side and down Highway 99: Sanger, Reedley, Selma, Kingsburg. If those towns are on your route, name them in sentences that say something real about the work there. A list of twenty town names in the footer isn’t fooling anyone, least of all Google.

Plenty of Fresno households speak something other than English at home. Spanish is everywhere in the Valley, and the city has a large Hmong community that has been here since the refugee resettlements of the late 1970s and 1980s. For businesses with customers in either, translated pages done properly by fluent speakers can reach people a single-language site never will. A plugin that machine-translates everything is not the same thing.

On the way to the parks

Highway 41 runs north from Fresno toward Yosemite, and 180 heads east to Kings Canyon, so in summer some local businesses pick up visitors passing through. If that’s you (a gas-and-grocery stop, a motel, a tire shop near the freeway), make hours, location and a tap-to-call button the first thing on a phone screen. Visitors won’t read anything else.

Fresno questions

Does a farm supply business need online ordering?

Not always. Many buyers still want to talk to someone, and that’s fine. A searchable product list with clear stock status often does more than a full online store, especially for parts that need a quick check before they ship.

Can we add a Hmong-language page?

Yes. We’d build it as a proper page and ask you for a translator from your own community, because the copy needs to sound like it was written by someone local, and we’re not the right people to judge that.

Calls and reviews from the Valley

Being remote, we have no Fresno office to drop by. Calls run on Pacific Time, and each review comes as a link that loads fine on the same ranch-road signal your customers put up with. For most Valley businesses the right starting point is small business web design plus good local SEO, and that’s often all a business needs for the first year.
