Boise, Meridian, Nampa and the smaller towns around them are several different markets on one stretch of I-84. We design websites and brand identity for businesses in all of them, on Mountain Time.

Boise, Meridian, Nampa and the smaller towns around them are several different markets on one stretch of I-84. We design websites and brand identity for businesses in all of them, on Mountain Time.

Drive west on I-84 out of downtown Boise and within half an hour you’ve crossed three different markets. Meridian is subdivisions, new schools and shopping centers. Nampa is older, with farm country starting at its edges. Past it, Caldwell runs into orchards and the wineries of the Snake River Valley. A Treasure Valley business that serves all three and writes one website for “Boise” is talking past most of them.

Ada County and Canyon County buy differently

Ada County (Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Kuna and Star) is where much of the new housing has gone up, and a lot of the people living in it moved here from somewhere else. They search for everything, read reviews before calling, and expect to book online. A painting contractor in Eagle or a pediatric dentist in Meridian needs a site that looks current and lets people act without picking up the phone.

Canyon County is different. Nampa and Caldwell have deep agricultural roots, sugar beets and seed companies among them, along with two private colleges, Northwest Nazarene in Nampa and the College of Idaho in Caldwell. Plenty of customers there found their mechanic or their insurance agent through someone at church or work, and they use the website to check you out after the fact. For them, plain facts beat polish: what you do, where you are, who answers the phone. Spanish-speaking customers make up a real share of the market too, which is worth planning for.

If you work both counties, give each its own page. Our SEO work starts with exactly that kind of decision.

Micron, Boise State and the companies around them

Micron’s headquarters sits on the southeast side of Boise, and a whole layer of suppliers, engineering firms and service companies grew up around it. So did businesses tied to Boise State, from the stadium with the blue turf to the research groups. Those B2B companies sell to buyers who read technical pages carefully, and many of them are still running sites built by whoever was handy when the company started.

What they need is usually web design that’s clear about capabilities and credentials, written in the language their customers use, and a logo that doesn’t look homemade next to a client’s procurement portal. Sometimes that means brand identity work before the site.

Downtown has its own crowd

Restaurants and shops downtown, around the Basque Block on Grove Street or near the Greenbelt along the Boise River, see a mix of locals, students and visitors that changes with football Saturdays and summer evenings. Their sites live or die on hours, menus and events kept up to date. We hand the site over in Framer, so changing them takes a few minutes and no call to us.

The quieter counties

The metro also takes in Gem County around Emmett, Boise County up toward Idaho City and Horseshoe Bend, and Owyhee County, which is enormous and very lightly populated. Businesses out there often serve customers who drive in from an hour away. A clear map and honest drive times do more than any amount of design.

About the time zone

Boise and southern Idaho run on Mountain Time, while the Panhandle runs an hour behind on Pacific. We schedule calls on your time, wherever you are. There’s no Idaho office, since we work remotely, and you’ll agree to a short written plan before we design anything.

Boise questions

I’m based in Boise but most of my jobs are in Canyon County. Where should the site focus?

Follow the work. Say where you’re based, then give Nampa and Caldwell their own pages with real detail about the jobs you do there. People in Canyon County notice when a Boise company actually knows their side of the valley.

We’re a family business that’s never had a website. Is it too late?

Not at all. Starting fresh is often easier than fixing an old site. A small, honest site with good photos and a working phone number is more than many established competitors bother with. See contractors and trades if that’s your line of work.
